2024 Edition Recap

The inaugural Japan–Africa Cardiology Symposium was a resounding success. Some of Africa’s top cardiologists joined us for a productive three days, which included informative sessions and five successful live cases.

“We are thrilled with the success of the inaugural Japan–Africa Cardiology Symposium. We set out to create an environment for sharing knowledge and advancing interventional cardiac care in Africa through collaboration, education, and innovation – and the feedback from attendees is that we’ve achieved exactly that. We are also grateful for the support from our event sponsors, without whom this success would not be possible,”

said Simon Swanich, Founder, Japan–Africa Cardiology Symposium.

The event would not have been possible without the participation of Dr Ryuzo Hayashi, our faculty, and other participants. We look forward to hosting everybody again.

We would also like to thank our medical sponsors – Netcare, Nipro Medical EMEA, iVascular, Keya Medical, and Jailwire – for their support in making the inaugural symposium a success. Additional thanks to Northcliff Auto BMW for being the vehicle partner.

2024 Theme: Power of Choice

Welcome to the inaugural 2024 Japan–Africa Cardiology Symposium.

As we gather at Netcare Alberton to collaborate over the next three days, I am reminded of the powerful impact of choice. Every cardiologist present today made the choice to be here, the choice to engage, the choice to learn, and the choice to share. The choice of these, over the comfort of routine, the familiarity of home, and time with family. You chose to invest your time and expertise for the betterment of cardiology, signalling a commitment to advancement and excellence that resonates deeply with our symposium’s ethos.

A special acknowledgement goes to Netcare Hospital for choosing to work with us by offering the use of their state-of-the-art facilities – you really have built the hospital of the future. Your willingness to support this event underscores a shared vision of pioneering healthcare and nurturing the future of cardiology. Your partnership is a cornerstone of this symposium and, for that, we are immensely grateful.

To our esteemed sponsors, who chose to extend their support to this symposium: your decision to stand with us is a testament to your dedication to innovation and progress in healthcare. Your generosity and contributions have been pivotal in bringing this symposium to fruition, and it is with sincere appreciation that we acknowledge your vital role in this journey.

I also extend my heartfelt thanks to my team, who chose to embark on this ambitious journey with a young company dedicated to challenging the status quo. Your passion, hard work, and unwavering commitment have not only made this event possible but have also set a new standard for what we can achieve together in serving the cardiology community. Your weekend and late night contributions are the backbone of this symposium, and your impact is both visible and deeply valued.

To the doctors and sponsors who have travelled from abroad, thank you for making the long journey to South Africa. I trust the hospitality shown by South Africans is warm and welcoming, and that you can reflect on your travels here as being beneficial.

As we kick off this symposium, let us reflect on the choices we’ve made to be here. These choices speak volumes about our collective desire to push boundaries, to collaborate, and to bring about transformative advancements in cardiology. It is my hope that over the course of this event, we will all make new choices: choices to adopt new techniques, to form new collaborations, and to take back invaluable insights to our patients, colleagues, and communities.

Together, we are building a future where the power of choice leads to innovation and success.

Welcome to the Japan–Africa Cardiology Symposium 2024, a celebration of choice, collaboration, and enhancing patient outcomes in cardiac care.
